What You Should Know: Why should the hands move when the dial itself could tell the time? This is the question at the heart of Trilobe's unconventional approach to watchmaking, which replaces traditional hands with rotating rings to indicate the hours, minutes and seconds. With Une Folle Journée, the young French brand takes this concept a step further, transforming its distinctive time display into a spectacular three-dimensional construction that appears to float above the movement. Housed in a lightweight titanium case, the watch features three rotating rings positioned at different heights beneath a dramatically domed sapphire crystal. The largest indicates the hours, while the smaller rings display the minutes and seconds, creating a constantly evolving mechanical composition. Beneath this unusual arrangement lies the automatic X-Centric calibre, developed specifically for Trilobe, with its beautifully structured architecture visible through the open dial and sapphire caseback. The result is a fascinating interplay between movement and display, where the mechanics become an essential part of the watch's visual identity. Dating to 2023, the present Une Folle Journée is accompanied by its original presentation box and papers. Combining an inventive approach to reading time with an unusually expressive mechanical construction, it offers a refreshing perspective on traditional watchmaking, demonstrating how even the most familiar functions can be reimagined through an entirely different design philosophy.
