What You Should Know: There is something wonderfully contradictory about the Girard-Perregaux Quasar Azure. On one hand, you have the tourbillon, one of the most traditional expressions of high-end watchmaking, with roots stretching back more than two centuries. On the other, an entirely transparent case carved from blue sapphire crystal, a material that feels closer to the future than the past. Bringing these two worlds together is no small feat, yet Girard-Perregaux makes the combination feel remarkably natural. Introduced in 2020, the present example is particularly special, designated as a unique piece, numbered 1 of 1. The manufacture's signature Three Bridges construction, a design with roots in the 19th century, takes centre stage, with three sculptural titanium bridges supporting the movement and its spectacular tourbillon. The blue sapphire case offers an unobstructed view of the automatic GP09400-1035 calibre from virtually every angle, while a discreet micro-rotor hidden behind the barrel preserves the movement's remarkable openness. Particularly impressive is the way the bridges and tourbillon appear almost suspended within the case, giving the entire mechanism an extraordinary sense of depth and lightness.
