What You Should Know: Introduced in 2000, the Simplicity has become one of the most celebrated creations in independent watchmaking, distinguished by its classical movement architecture and exceptional standard of traditional hand-finishing. Every component reflects an extraordinary attention to detail, from the beautifully proportioned movement architecture to the meticulous finishing techniques that have made Dufour one of the most revered independent watchmakers of his generation. The present example is extraordinary even by the standards of the Simplicity. Created as a unique piece for the 2023 Philippe Dufour Foundation auction, it is housed in a 38mm platinum case, a metal rarely used by Dufour, and distinguished by an aventurine dial, a first in the watchmaker's illustrious career. Its deep, shimmering surface evokes a star-filled night sky, bringing an entirely different character to a watch traditionally associated with classical dials. Equally significant is the absence of the customary small seconds indication, leaving only the hour and minute hands to traverse the dial. This exceptionally restrained configuration gives the watch a purity of design that feels perfectly aligned with the philosophy behind the Simplicity itself.
