What You Should Know: A particularly rare expression of Daniel Roth’s S247 Chronograph, the present example is distinguished by its vivid red dial, placing it within the early wave of coloured watches that began to enter high-end watchmaking in the late 1990s. Following Audemars Piguet’s multicoloured Royal Oak Offshore collection of 1997 and preceding the colourful Daytona “Beach” references of circa 2000–2002, the watch captures an important moment in the evolution of luxury sports watches. Its 38 x 41mm stainless steel case retains Roth’s signature double-ellipse form, housing the legendary Zenith El Primero 400 automatic chronograph and giving this particularly unusual red-dial configuration a distinctly playful character.
