Originally developed in the 1990s by a remarkable trio comprising François-Paul Journe, Vianney Halter and Denis Flageollet, the calibre was famously used in a tortue-shaped chronograph before finding an unexpected second life in this creation from Ming. Introduced to celebrate the brand's fifth anniversary, the 37.04 brings together an important chapter in modern watchmaking history with the distinctive design language that has made Ming one of the most recognisable names in contemporary horology. The movement has been extensively reworked by La Joux-Perret, with newly skeletonised bridges featuring a warm rose gold-toned finish, traditional graining and hand-polished bevels. Visible through the sapphire caseback, its intricate construction provides a fascinating contrast to the watch's thoroughly modern exterior. The black guilloché dial, produced by Kari Voutilainen's dial manufacture Comblémine, is equally impressive, with a sapphire overlay incorporating luminous chronograph scales at different depths. The result is a remarkable sense of visual layering, while the recessed minute counter and absence of running seconds give the dial a particularly clean appearance. Housed in a grade 5 titanium case with Ming's characteristic twisted lugs, the 37.04 is a compelling meeting of historical mechanics and contemporary design. Produced in a limited series of just 100 pieces, it represents one of the brand's most ambitious Special Projects Cave creations, offering a rare opportunity to experience a movement with an extraordinary heritage through an entirely different aesthetic perspective.
