What You Should Know: The first watch created by self-taught Australian watchmaker Reuben Schoots, the Series 1 brings a distinctly personal approach to traditional watchmaking. Its 42mm stainless steel case frames a silver dial inspired by classical pocket watches, combining a concentrically brushed Roman numeral chapter ring with a hand-flaked centre that gives each example its own subtle character. Behind it sits Schoots’ manually wound calibre, constructed and extensively finished by hand in his Canberra workshop, with its large bridges and traditional architecture visible through the caseback. Familiar in its influences yet unmistakably contemporary in execution, the Series 1 offers a compelling introduction to one of the few independent watchmakers practising his craft in Australia.
