Lot Details

A masterpiece of independent watchmaking, this beautiful white gold Daniel Roth Reference 2187 combines a one-minute tourbillon with the watchmaker’s signature double-ellipse case in a rare dual-sided display. Both dials are hand-crafted with Clous de Paris guilloché, a decoration reserved for just a handful of pieces, making this example especially coveted. Created early in Roth’s independent career, it marks an important milestone in the history of modern independent watchmaking. In Their Own Words: “When I created the Tourbillon Ref. 2187, my goal was to honor tradition while expressing my own voice in watchmaking. The tourbillon, Breguet’s legendary invention, for which I personally developed a version adapted to the wristwatch in the 1980s, was naturally the complication with which I wanted to launch my own brand. Its double-ellipse case is my signature: neither round nor square, but a harmonious shape that naturally embraces the wrist. Crafted in white gold, this rare example features a Clous de Paris guilloché dial: a hand-crafted pattern that plays with the light and contrasts beautifully with the seconds sub-dial and the spectacular tourbillon opening at six o’clock. Most of my tourbillons featured a striped guilloché pattern, but this particular motif was reserved for only a few pieces, making it especially exceptional. At the heart of the watch beats the DR 307 caliber, a one-minute tourbillon, entirely finished by hand. Every detail of the cage and bridges is visible, as I believe that the tourbillon should be celebrated, never hidden. Turning the watch over reveals its second face: a secondary dial displaying the date and power reserve, decorated with the same guilloché. This 'Double Face' design offers the wearer both beauty and functionality. The Ref. 2187 is far more than just a watch: it is a declaration of independence, and this rare white gold examples is one of the most collectible versions of the model.” - Daniel Roth, Original Founder of Daniel Roth
