Number 2 of just 10 pieces, this MB&F LM101 “HODINKEE” is offered in pristine condition by its original owner — a collector with the foresight to secure this watch the moment it was first released on HODINKEE. The very first stainless steel Legacy Machine and HODINKEE’s debut collaboration, it remains one of the most historically significant MB&F creations, instantly sold out and now almost never seen on the market. In Their Own Words: "This remarkable timepiece is one of only ten LM101 models produced in stainless steel by MB&F in collaboration with HODINKEE, marking a pivotal moment in modern independent watchmaking. Released in 2015, this was HODINKEE’s very first collaboration with a watch brand, the first-ever Legacy Machine crafted in stainless steel, and the first to feature the striking dark chocolate brown PVD dial. At the time, MB&F typically expected a limited series to take up to two years to sell through its retail network. With this project, however, demand far exceeded expectations. Prior to launch, I suggested leaving the HODINKEE name off the caseback to allow for unsold pieces to be offered to retailers. Ben Clymer, HODINKEE’s founder, declined, committing fully to the collaboration and agreeing to take all ten pieces engraved with the HODINKEE name. The launch coincided with the Dubai Watch Week Gala Dinner in October 2015. During the dinner, sales updates began to arrive by text message: first “It’s live,” followed thirty minutes later by “1 sold,” then “2 sold, 3 sold…” By the time I went to bed that night, six had already been sold; by morning, all ten pieces were gone. The unexpected success of the LM101 “HODINKEE” marked a turning point for both MB&F and HODINKEE.
