Lot Details
One of a handful of examples ever made, this early UR-102, crafted entirely by hand during the formative years of URWERK, was recently found to come from an exceptionally small batch of 34mm pieces — the most compact and rarest models ever produced by the avant-garde brand. In Their Own Words: “URWERK began as a team of just three passionate individuals: Martin Frei, my brother Thomas, and myself. Martin was responsible for the design, already exploring philosophical concepts of how to represent the passage of time. Thomas hand-crafted the UR-102 case — since CNC machines were far beyond our reach — and produced it in three sizes. The piece you have is the smallest, and also the rarest. My role was to develop the mechanism. We wanted to create a timepiece that was beyond time itself, outside the trends of the era, when every watch was expected to be round with two hands. When we first presented this model at the AHCI stand, we were met with complete incomprehension from our peers. We showcased this creation as a piece of modern art, quite revolutionary." - Felix Baumgartner, co-founder of Urwerk.
