What You Should Know: Created in 2015 as part of a limited series commemorating the end of F.P. Journe’s original 38mm case, the present Tourbillon Souverain brings together two important chapters in the watchmaker’s history. Its movement combines the architecture of Journe’s first-generation Tourbillon Souverain, including the one-second Remontoir d’Égalité, with the dead-beat seconds mechanism that would later become a defining feature of the model. Uniquely executed for this 38-piece edition, the movement is based on the original brass calibre 1498 but features a pink gold baseplate and bridges. The bronze-toned dial gives prominence to the remontoir through an aperture at 6 o’clock, while a second opening reveals the tourbillon. Numbered 37 of just 38 pieces, this exceptional example represents one of Journe’s most thoughtful and technically fascinating interpretations of his own landmark creation—and a true masterpiece of his early 21st-century work.
