Lot Details

The Grönefeld 1941 Principia exemplifies the refined approach of the Dutch brothers Bart and Tim Grönefeld to contemporary independent watchmaking. Produced in 2022, the model displays hours, minutes, and small seconds in a classically proportioned case inspired by the brand’s hometown of Oldenzaal. Beneath its restrained exterior lies a beautifully finished manual-wind movement, showcasing the meticulous hand-finishing for which the Grönefeld atelier is known. Though simple in its indications, the Principia remains one of the most compelling expressions of modern haute horlogerie focused on purity and execution. In their own words: "The 1941 Principia is our first automatically wound timepiece. Each movement is finished and assembled by hand. To emphasize the manual labour involved a gold plate, engraved with an individual number, is applied to the movement. With the Principia we have overcome the detrimental effect of gravity and made a highly precise watch for the delectation of watch purists." - Bart and Tim Grönefeld, co-founders of Grönefeld.
