Number 95 of just 110 pieces, this Daniel Roth Papillon in pink gold showcases the independent watchmaker’s signature double-ellipse case and ingenious wandering minutes display. A hallmark of Roth’s creativity, it blends classical elegance with a uniquely poetic approach to telling time. In Their Own Words: “When I designed the Papillon, I wanted to invent a new way of reading the time — something poetic, intuitive, and unique. Created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Daniel Roth brand, this piece reflects my journey and experience as an independent watchmaker. The name Papillon is inspired by the shape of its two minute indicators, resembling wings that move gracefully along a semi-circular arc. Unlike a traditional hand, these 'wings' operate alternately: one remains still while the other advances, creating a continuous, fluid, and almost hypnotic motion. It is my way of transforming the reading of time into a dance rather than a mere mechanical measurement. At twelve o’clock, a jumping hour window clearly displays the hour. Every sixty minutes, the numeral changes with a sharp, precise jump — a moment of rigor that contrasts with the flowing movement of the minutes unfolding beneath it. For this anniversary edition, three variations were presented, including this pink gold version, produced in only 110 pieces. All feature my signature double-ellipse case, a harmonious silhouette that naturally fits the wrist. The dial is richly decorated with guilloché patterns, playing with the light like the delicate wings of a butterfly, while the openings are carefully crafted to offer both clarity and depth.
