Lot Details

The Series II Chronometer marks an important step for Pascal Coyon, the Bayonne-based watchmaker whose rising reputation among independent makers first emerged with his Series I. Introducing Coyon’s first in-house calibre, the Series II reflects his deep admiration for the great observatory chronometers of the past. The present example pairs a white gold case with a striking two-tone salmon dial, accented by applied Breguet numerals that lend the watch a refined and distinctly classical character. The movement continues this theme, finished and constructed with a clear nod to traditional pocket watch movement architecture. Notably, the engraved viper’s head indicates that the watch has been tested at the Besançon Observatory, underscoring its serious chronometry credentials. In their own words: "I established my workshop in Bayonne, in the southwest of France. After spending fifteen years repairing and restoring clocks and watches, I decided around the year 2000 to begin creating timepieces under my own name, following traditional watchmaking methods. My goal has always been to produce true chronometers with extensive hand-finishing while keeping them accessible to collectors. The Caliber 19, my second-generation movement powering the Chronometer Series 2, reflects this philosophy through strong chronometric performance and a high level of hand finishing. I personally carry out the finishing and assembly of the movements in my workshop. While I use CNC machining for the plates and bridges, I occasionally rely on trusted partners when my schedule becomes particularly demanding. Each watch I create is made to order, allowing collectors to work closely with me in choosing materials, dial designs, and case details." - Pascal Coyon.
